Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day!  What I learned from my father...

  • School is important, including writing, which I hated.
  • Give more than you get.  Dad always volunteered for something, and always took his kids with him.  Optimist Club fundraisers, Special Olympics track meets and bowling tournaments, cleaning trails at local parks, you name it we did it.  Now my kids get this special experience.
  • Firm handshake and look people in the eye.
  • To stop parking my bike behind their cars.  This one was slow to sink in.  My bike was 5 different colors because of all the different parts.
  • To be independent.  Don’t be afraid to travel, to move to a different place, to take a different stance than everyone else at the table.
  • A great work ethic.
  • A love for nature.
  • If you want something, save for it.  (Ex: See above issue with bike)
  • Be there for your kids.  Love them, hug them, spend time with them.  Don’t be their friend, be their example.
  • Above all, respect and care for your Mother.  My brothers, sister and I heard this a million times…”Call your mother”, “I don’t want anything, but get your mother something”, “I am fine, now go help your mother”.

Miss you Dad, you are still my hero.
